Strawberry Sriracha Margarita

I’m not much of a hard liquor drinker. That was something I inadvertently gave up when I became a mom, along with sleeping past 7am, peeing alone, and buying anything for myself without feeling selfish. It’s worth the price of admission, this tequila free/up at dawn/spectated toilet runs/”why am I buying this for myself when I could be buying something for my kid,” life that I live as a person who grew another human in her guts.

Because she’s really amazing.

(Me & Tater in the healing waters of Santa Barbara a few days ago)

So I drink beer (the good stuff) or wine (the cheap stuff) unless you tell me that there is a cocktail on the menu that’s spicy. I love a nice hot cocktail. Lately, jalapenos have been popping into drinks all over the country and I couldn’t be happier about it.

My undying love for the Rooster Sauce put the idea for a red hot cocktail in my head a few months ago. And adding strawberries gave the perfect balance. Be careful, alcohol intensifies heat so start with a small amount (this recipe calls for only 1/2 tsp) and then decide if you want to add a bit more.

If you love Sriracha as much as I do, I would suggest you add The Sriracha Cookbook to your culinary library, or follow Randy Clemens blog, The Sriracha Cookbook Blog.

Strawberry Sriracha Margarita

  • 2 cups strawberries, hulled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup tequilla
  • 1/4 cup Cointreau (or other orange flavored liquor)
  • 1 tbs agave nectar
  • 1/2 tsp Sriracha
  • 2 cups ice
  • (yield: 32oz, about 2 generous servings)

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender, blend until smooth. Pour into a sugar rimmed margarita glass.

I literally just found out about the Sriracha cookbook this weekend. And it’s so perfect, I adore the stuff. And I don’t really do hard liquor either, not for the exact reasons as you, just because it knocks me on the floor before I know it. But a margarita I will always fall for. Make it spicy and I’m doomed. I adore this Jackie!

Ha! Cassie! Yes you did… thanks to your dynamite Sriracha-Soy and Sesame Almond recipe! It’s a small little world we live in sometimes, isn’t it?

And Jackie, thank youuuuuu for the shout-out. You know this is going up on the blog and Pinterest board like, first thing tomorrow AM, right?! Oh, and if you’re ever in the mood for extra spice, you can always rim the glass with a nice coating of Sriracha Salt! Super-easy to make: http://braisedanatomy.com/2011/12/25/sriracha-salt/

      Cheers, and Viva la Sriracha!

omg, how awesome is this?! Love it! It’s kind of like a bloody mary but with exceptional taste! Cute picture of you and your little one 😉 I love your dress!!

    • Jackie August 1, 2012 at 11:19 am #

Thanks! I’ve pretty much lived in that dress all summer, because of the afore mentioned issue with buying things for myself when Tater clothes are just so dang cute. Her wardrobe is twice the size of mine!

You and Tater are just too precious! And this cocktail – wow! I’m a HUGE Sriracha lover (and I’m totally getting that cookbook) so you know I’ll be making this soon!

This is a cool drink recipe. My husband is gonna love it since he’s such a sriracha fiend that we have two giant bottles in the pantry and another in the fridge. I’m going to make this for him!

My gentleman friend puts Sriracha (aka hot cock) on absolutely everything. I wonder if he would go for this?

    • Jackie July 30, 2012 at 7:25 pm #

I hope so plus he can call it the “Hot Cock-Tail”! Does he have the cookbook? It’s pretty great.

Haha! I was laughing out loud when you mentioned you gave up peeing alone…And I thought I was the only one. Perchance it is an initiation thing, that goes with motherhood, call it multitasking or curing a separation anxiety syndrome of a toddler, I am glad, I am not alone 😉
i am sure I am not the only one finding this margarita hard to resist. This is a must try! Thanks for sharing!\

Sriracha and Strawberries! YUM! I’m making a pitcher for sunday brunch! 🙂

  12. Bree July 31, 2012 at 7:12 am #

I have about the same drinking philosphy, but this cocktail seems worth it 😉

  13. Kiersten @ Oh My Veggies July 31, 2012 at 9:40 am #

Sriracha makes everything taste better, doesn’t it? Not that a strawberry margarita needs much help tasting better, but you know what I mean. 🙂

WHAT THE HECK. You are my hero. Spicy and sweet to the rescue!

I’m trying this over the weekend… it seems like a perfect opportunity to hijack my mom’s margarita machine!

    • Jackie August 1, 2012 at 11:17 am #

I used to have a margarita machine! It broke, probably from overuse 😉

  16. Baking Serendipity July 31, 2012 at 5:29 pm #

I don’t have kids yet, but already live for cheap wine…and drinks like these!

  17. Megan {Country Cleaver} August 2, 2012 at 6:33 am #

This is brilliance beyond brilliance. And I’m pretty sure Ben would freak out if I brought him a pitcher of these. Freak out in a good way. He loves the Rooster Sauce. Except he joking refers to rooster sauce by another name for Rooster that starts with c and ends in k. My future husband is perpetually 15 and giggles every time… *rolls eyes*

  20. Mackenzie {SusieFreakingHomemaker} August 8, 2012 at 5:51 am #

Oooo girl, I am with you. If it’s got a kick – I’m in!! I love this idea, and I must try it ASAP. Is it 5 o’clock yet??

  21. Polly August 8, 2012 at 11:47 pm #

This is a divine recipe. No joke – I made several batches for a fiesta-themed party this weekend and everyone was raving about what a unique drink it was. Will make these again without a doubt before the strawberries disappear. Thank you!

    • Jackie August 9, 2012 at 6:20 am #

That’s awesome! So glad you liked them 🙂

  22. Michelle May 25, 2013 at 2:31 pm #

Just made some of these, and wanted to let you know I adore it. This is going to be my new summer drink, for sure. Not sweet, spicy, fresh strawberries, an unexpected combination of flavors…perfect!

  23. Cee May 8, 2015 at 6:18 am #

This drink is AMAZING. so bomb. I added a bit of fresh red chilli and blended it into the drink to enhance the spiciness a bit more without the sriracha overpowering the strawberry taste. Amazing amazing combo. Thank you for coming up with this! (:

  24. Katie June 22, 2015 at 1:26 pm #

We absolutely love this unique combo! Even featured it on a new blog post 🙂
